The Brief

Colac Otway Shire asked us to develop a website that delivers on a range objectives:

  • Helps build Colac brand awareness and positive brand perception through high quality design, copywriting and imagery
  • Turns visitors into “prospects”
  • Repository of valuable information sought by prospective residents (single professionals aged 25-45 years and families) aiming to educate and influence
  • Intuitive and easy-to-use for both the visitor and the website content manager
  • Easy to find via search engines
  • Encourages repeat visitation, and lengthy visitation
  • Database development via subscriptions to news, social media, competitions etc
  • Social media campaign integration

The Response

We progressed through a process of assessing "competing" websites and also reviewing award-winning websites for examples of international best practice. Our reverse design brief indicated that the site required a number of must-have's, including:

  • Meet the site objectives
  • Be cleanly designed
  • Have a boutique country feel
  • Fit on one page - no or limited scrolling needed
  • Feature an engaging and complementary colour palette - but also complement COS’s existing style
  • Have top navigation
  • Showcase vibrant photography
  • Be intuitive to navigate
  • Not be text heavy

The Outcome

The resultant website is attractive, easy to find and navigate and reinforces the key messages of the Colac, Life Your Way campaign.
